What we are
A ‘critical friend’ for the MS service to develop better understanding of what MS patients need from services to help them manage their condition better.
What we are not
A forum for moaners or pursuing individual personal complaints
Aim
To provide a route for MS patients and carers to advise the PCT on what matters most to them and to identify solutions to issues and problems with MS Services.
This Focus Group will
- offer mutual support and advice to each other
- improve communitcation between MS patients, carers and the PCT
- share needs, concerns, interests and suggestions about services and check i these are shared by other patients and/or carers
- work in partnership with the PCT to improve information and services for people with MS
- influence decisions that PCT makes about MS services
- signpost patients and carers to useful information, sources of support, befreinding and support groups etc.
- monitor local services developments and the impact on patients and carers
- improve local MS information for patients and carers
Achievements
- Regular focus group meetings
- Production of information leaflets for patients
- Participation in service redesign as the patient voice
- Contributing to changes in symptom management
- Developed the website
Membership
The group is made up of MS patients, carers and PCT staff. Other people may be co-opted as needed such as representatives from relevant groups.
