Cancer screening and early detection
To help identify those at risk of developing cancer, NHS Birmingham East and North offers NHS National Cancer Screening Programmes, allowing the condition to be identified and treated sooner.
For all these services, please make sure your address is up to date at your GP. This is the address used to invite you to the necessary screenings.

Bowel cancer screening
Bowel screening is available to men and women between the ages of 60 to 69. Anyone over the age of 70 can request a screening kit from the HUB on 0800 707 6060.
You will automaticaly receive a screening kit every two years through the post to your home address. If you are over 70 you can request a kit to be sent to you.
Do the test in your own home and return it in the freepost envelope.

Breast cancer screening
Breast cancer screening is offered every three years from the age of 50. Women over 70 can (and should) request to be screened – the risk increases as you get older.
You will automaticaly receive an appointment to attend screening, which will be at one of our mobile units in your area or at our static unit at City Hospital.

Cervical cancer screening
This is available to women between the ages of 25 and 64. They are automatically invited to attend a screening appointment at the following intervals:
- 25: First invitation
- 25 to 49: Every three years
- 50 – 64: Every five years.
You can attend your screening appointment at your GP surgery, or other locations such as walk-in clinics. You will receive further details with your invitation.
