Free NHS Health Check
The Free NHS Health Check service will be offered to all residents aged 40-74 years old, who are not already diagnosed with Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) (ie a history of heart attack, angina, stoke, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure or cholesterol).
Most people will be offered the check every five years, but some people may require more frequent assessments. The Free NHS Health Check programme aims to help you lower your risk of developing these common but mainly preventable conditions.
Who can use the service
The introduction of the NHS Health Check programme across England started in April 2009. It will be available to all adults aged between 40 and 74, who have not already been diagnosed with one of the above medical conditions. As the Free NHS Health Check programme is one of the largest prevention programmes, involving millions of people, it will not be completely rolled out until early 2013.
How to use the service
People eligible for a Free NHS Health Check should be contacted directly and offered a choice of appointment date and time.
