Exercise on Prescription

Lady in gymExercise on Prescription aims to help people to become more healthy by increasing their physical activity. It is one of the biggest GP-referral schemes in the country and operates all over Birmingham.

Your GP can refer you to the service. Individuals then see a Health and Fitness Advisor and receive exercise support.

Who can use the service

The scheme is for people aged over age 15 who have got some of the risk factors which can lead to coronary heart disease.

These include being overweight, smoking, high cholesterol, family history of heart disease, high blood pressure or a very stressful lifestyle.

Other people are referred to prevent osteoporosis, to improve mobility, to help control diabetes or to help treat depression to name but a few.

Speak with your local GP with regard to eligibility.
