Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment
NHS Birmingham East and North commissions and looks after services that people get from their local pharmacy (or chemist). The NHS regularly reviews these services in a process known as a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA). The PNA document assesses the need for pharmaceutical services in the area and is used to help the NHS plan pharmacy provision for the population by identifying where efforts in commissioning services should focus.
We have reviewed the services available from our pharmacies and our plans for future services, looking at the needs of our population and their experiences of current provision. NHS Birmingham East and North has consulted on its PNA with a broad cross section of stakeholders, including the public, patients, pharmacists, GPs and neighbouring primary care trusts. The feedback received has been included in the final PNA.
Our assessment found that our population currently enjoys good access to pharmaceutical services, with a broad range of services available when and where they are needed. The trust has concluded that there is no requirement for additional pharmacies in east and north Birmingham at this time.
This PNA has been prepared and published in accordance with NHS Regulations. Download the full version of the PNA document below.
