Summary Care Records

The NHS is changing the way your health information is stored and managed so we can deliver better and safer care.

NHS Birmingham East and North is working with many of its GP surgeries so we can offer you an electronic Summary Care Record (SCR).

The SCR is a summary of important information about your health which can be accessed via NHS computers by authorised NHS staff only with your consent.

This means that if you have an accident or become ill, healthcare staff will have immediate access to vital health information about you to help them provide you with the best possible care.

This includes details of any allergies you may have, your recent prescriptions and if you have had any bad reactions to medicines in the past.

Further information

* Calls to 030 cost no more than calls to geographic (01 and 02) numbers and must be included in inclusive minutes and discount schemes in the same way.

Information in different formats

If you require information in other formats, including Braille or other languages, please contact the NHS Care Records Service Information Line on 0300 123 3020.

David Silver’s story

David Silver worries about what would happen if he ever went into a diabetic attack and nobody around him knew what to do.

He thinks Summary Care Records are a vast improvement and would allow the people treating him fast access to information about long-term conditions and medication.
