Leading Clinical Commissioning: What next?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Paper figures standing in a circlePeople from across the local health and social care landscape met in Birmingham to discuss the implications for the Government’s NHS White Paper – and now it is over to you to say what you think should happen next.

GPs, leaders from NHS Birmingham East and North (BEN) primary care trust and Birmingham City Council, thought leaders, and patients, were all involved in the Leading Clinical Commissioning event (friendly web address: http://benpct.nhs.uk/lcc2010), a two-day event held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on 20 and 21 July. Plus, many people were able to join the debate online by following the live video stream and using social media tools.

See and hear what NHS BEN chief executive Sophia Christie, GP leader Dr Robert Morley, Birmingham City Council adults and communities director Peter Hay, and patient Tom McLaughlin have to say about what should come next for health and social care in the city.

Now you can add your voice to the debate, which will inform the future for health and social care in east and north Birmingham.

Add your comments to what was discussed at the event by visiting http://benpct.nhs.uk/lcc2010. All your feedback will be collated and influence the future direction of healthcare for east and north Birmingham.

Future of commissioning event round-up

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Paper figures standing in a circleThe first building blocks are being laid for a post-White Paper health service in east and north Birmingham after a dynamic event held this week in the city.

GPs, leaders from NHS Birmingham East and North primary care trust and Birmingham City Council, thought leaders, and patients, were all involved in Leading Clinical Commissioning… what’s possible?, a two-day event held at Edgbaston. Plus, many people were able to join the debate online via social media tools.

The overwhelming view was that all involved in the health economy need to start working together now to ensure that the highest standards are met, patients are empowered, and key skills are not lost as new systems emerge.

And the conversation need not stop in the room, with everyone invited to contribute to what came out of the day by adding their views online and in other activities.

Highlights from Day Two will follow, but include interviews with Dr Robert Morley, head of the Birmingham Local Medical Committee, Sophia Christie, NHS BEN chief executive, and Peter Hay, Strategic Director of Adults and Communities at Birmingham City Council.

Event timeline

Day one of the event covered existing connections, the implications of the NHS White Paper, and identified strengthsm, problems, opportunities and threats. From this, a set of underlying principles emerged.

Day two built on this work, defining what a locally-driven health service mighty look like in practice. Plus, definitive actions were suggested that can anticipate the changes outlined in the White Paper and connected proposals.
