Feeling unwell this winter?
Ambulance bosses and local hospitals are urging you to make sure choose the right NHS service if you are feeling unwell.
With more extreme winter weather expected, local emergency departments are busier than usual. Those with minor injuries or ailments, such as cold and flu-like symptoms, are advised to call their GP for advice, call NHS Direct or attend a local walk-in centre.
Make the right choice
- Choose the right service – make sure you are contacting the right part of the NHS
- If in any doubt, contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or visit www.nhs.uk
- Walk in to one of our urgent care centres at Warren Farm in Kingstanding, or Washwood Heath in Saltley
- Be prepared for the winter weather – see our health advice over Christmas
- Save A&E for life-threatening conditions and emergencies.
999 calls and Accident and Emergency (A&E) services are for serious health care problems and should not be used in place of other services. Using them responsibly will ensure they are able to respond quickly to those who are most in need of their help.
