Local MP John Hemming attended a special event to mark the official opening of the Richmond Primary Care Centre in Stechford on Friday (22nd January).
Since opening in November, the £8.5m centre has already transformed healthcare provision in the local area by bringing together a wide range of health services under one roof. This includes the Iridium Medical Practice, physiotherapy, podiatry, health visiting, district nursing and community dental services.
Unveiling a commemorative plaque, John Hemming said: “I am really supportive of the new Richmond Primary Care Centre, which I know has already made a big difference to the local population. It is well placed to meet people’s healthcare needs in the 21st century and is greatly appreciated by my constituents.”
Paul Sabapathy, Chairman of NHS Birmingham East and North, said: “It’s great to see this centre up and running and providing the best possible healthcare for people living in and around Stechford. I would like to thank all our staff and partners who have worked so hard on developing this building.”
The new centre is part of a series of new developments by NHS Birmingham East and North in partnership with the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) and BaS LIFT, which seeks to regenerate health and care services in the local community.
It is located on a one acre site on the corner of Richmond Road and Bordesley Green East is only 1.5km from Heartlands Hospital, with excellent transport links to and from the centre, as well as providing on site patient and staff parking.

A group of Midland doctors have signed a contract to run new a GP practice in the north of Birmingham. This follows national investment to increase access to GPs by communities that have traditionally experienced greater levels of ill health and have had access to a lower number of GPs than other areas.
As part of the national Equitable Access to Primary Medical Care programme, NHS Birmingham East and North has been allocated extra funding to commission new GP practices and a new GP-led health centre. Following a detailed tender process, work on a new practice for Kingstanding was given the green light when the GPs came in to sign contracts with the trust.
GP services within the practice will be provided on behalf of NHS Birmingham East and North by Assura Vertis LLP, a partnership between 23 GP practices in the Redditch and Bromsgrove area and leading specialist healthcare provider Assura.
The new practice, which will be based at the Warren Farm Health Centre, will be working with its local community to develop an increased range of health facilities, relevant to the needs of the local population. The practice will be open to patients until 8pm two evenings a week and on Saturday mornings.
Director of Resources Jonathan Tringham said: “I am delighted that we are working in partnership to produce a brand new GP practice with high quality services for patients. We have taken into account what our patients wanted from a GP practice and have incorporated views put forward through the public consultation.”
Dr Ian Morrey, a GP and chair of Assura Vertis, said: “Assura Vertis is pleased to have this opportunity to work with NHS Birmingham East and North to provide this additional access to a GP or nurse for the local community. We look forward to providing the patients of Kingstanding with high quality, easy and convenient access to a GP or nurse, when they need it.”
