Mr Paul Sabapathy CBE
Mr Paul Chandrasekharan Sabapathy CBE is Chairman of NHS Birmingham East and North and Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands.
Born in Chennai, India, in 1942, Mr Sabapathy moved to the UK in 1964, after studying at Lawrence School, Lovedale and Madras Christian College. He completed a Masters degree from Aston University and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant. He became a British citizen in 1984.
After a 28-year career in industry holding senior positions with IMI plc, and retiring as Assistant Managing Director of IMI Titanium in 1996, he became the Chief Executive of North Birmingham Community NHS Trust, serving until 2000.
He is currently Chairman of NHS Birmingham East and North, Vice-Chair of the NHS Confederation Primary Care Trust Network, and a Trustee of the Bournville Village Trust. He is also an Ambassador of Advantage West Midlands, the Regional Development Agency.
Mr Sabapathy was awarded the OBE for services to Urban Regeneration in 1995 and a CBE in 2004 for services to business and education in the West Midlands. He was appointed Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands in October 2007.
He lives in Sutton Coldfield, is married to Win and they have two children.

He has been a member of the Boards of the Birmingham and Black Country Development Corporations, Standards Board for England, and of the National Blood Authority. He is Chair of the West Midlands Industrial Development Board, Past President of Walsall Chamber of Commerce, Deputy Chair of the Committee of University Chairmen, and a Trustee of the Refugee Council and the New Walsall Art Gallery. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
