Commissioning and Capital Planning

The Primary Care Commissioning and Capital Planning teams at NHS Birmingham East and North are responsible for the following:

Primary Care Commissioning

Primary care describes community based health services that are usually the first and often the only point of contact that patients make with the NHS. Services are generally commissioned from doctors, dentists, optometrists and opticians, and community pharmacists.

The Primary Care Commissioning team ensures that primary care services reflect local health needs and make sure that quality standards are set and maintained by all contractors.

The trust has set out its overall vision and approach to commissioning primary care services in its Overarching Primary Care Strategy.

Capital Planning

The Capital Planning team is responsible for preparing the trust’s Estates Strategy and its Strategic Service Development Plans. In addition, the team makes sure that planned new premises meet the adopted standards and criteria.

The team plans, implements and coordinates all of the trust’s capital projects from inception to commissioning. To do this, the trust works with staff, patients, architects and planners, assisted by expert staff from the Estates Technical team in the trust’s Shared Services Agency.
