The Department of Health’s world class commissioning programme aims to deliver a more strategic and long-term approach to commissioning services that improve the health of the communities served by primary care trusts.
To do this, NHS Birmingham East and North will:
- Locally lead the NHS and work with community partners
- Engage with public and patients and collaborate with clinicians
- Manage knowledge and assess needs
- Prioritise investment and secure procurement skills
- Promote improvement and innovation
- Manage the local health system.
The trust has set out a range of targets that it plans to achieve over the next five to ten years to meet these goals. You can see them in improving health outcomes.
The NHS West Midlands, the Strategic Health Authority for the region, then makes sure that the trust is working towards these goals through its commissioning assurance system.
