Social Entrepreneur in Residence

NHS Birmingham East and North is home to the UK’s first Social Entrepreneur in Residence, Eleanor Cappell.

Employed by the Young Foundation’s Health Launchpad team, and hosted by NHS Birmingham East and North, Eleanor supports dynamic people with innovative ideas and new solutions to tackle health inequalities.

Eleanor’s brief is to encourage innovative thinking and steer sustainable projects to successful fruition.

How does it work?

The Social Entrepreneur in Residence (SEiR) acts as a catalyst in a local area by:

  • Identifying entrepreneurial talent
  • Scouting for good ideas
  • Engaging with NHS Birmingham East and North staff as well as the third sector.

The SEiR’s prime aim is to find, energise and help entrepreneurs to develop their concept from an idea or modest project to the delivery of a saleable, sustainable venture.

What is an SEiR looking for?

  • Innovation: Ideas need to be radical in approach and have the potential to transform health in our society
  • Social impact: Ideas need to bring about a real step change to address health inequalities in Birmingham
  • Sustainability: We want to co-build ventures that are financially viable and sustainable
  • Scalability: The venture needs the potential to be scalable at a national or international level
  • People/team: To work with people with entrepreneurial flair, drive and commitment to make an idea come to life.
